Make Amazon Pay – eine andere Zukunft ist möglich

Diskussionsveranstaltung im Rahmen des Transnational Social Strike // Berlin Meeting // 10-12 November mit Aktivist*innen der Auseinandersetzungen bei Amazon in Polen und Frankreich

Organisiert von der Kampagne Make Amazon Pay und TOP B3RLIN, in Kooperation mit Deliverunion (FAU Berlin)

Amazon ist ein Pionier in zweierlei Hinsicht.

Erstens setzt es neue Maßstäbe für die Ausbeutung, Unterdrückung und Entwürdigung der Beschäftigten.Unter anderem mit Griffen in die technologische Trickkiste zerlegt es jegliche Prozesse im Arbeitsleben, schafft standardisierte Abläufe und damit eine neue Dimension von Überwachung und Kontrolle. Die seit 2013 stattfindenden Auseinandersetzungen und Arbeitskämpfe sind nicht nur entscheidend für die Zigtausend Beschäftigten bei Amazon selbst, sondern sie werden Leuchtturmeffekt für Arbeitsverhältnisse auch auch über die Logistikbranche hinaus haben. Dementsprechend sollte sich der Widerstand gegen dieses neue Arbeitsregime ebenfalls ausbreiten; so kämpfen die Essenskurier*innen bei Deliverunion auch in Berlin für bessere Arbeitsverhältnisse und gegen Ausbeutung und Entwürdigung in der sog. neuen „Gig-Economy“.

Zweitens ist Amazon als Silicon-Valley-Unternehmen zunehmend Tonangeber für eine technokratische Zukunft, die mit technologischem Fortschritt und Einfachheit überzeugen zu versucht – alles ist digitalisiert, alles ist automatisch, alles ist überall verfügbar und alle sind miteinander verbunden. Zweifelsohne bieten einige dieser technologischen Errungenschaften Potential für ein gutes Leben für alle, doch unter der Ägide von Amazon und Co gelten immer noch Profitmaximierung, Arbeitswahn und Ausbeutung.

Die Kampagne „Make Amazon Pay“ sagt hingegen: Eine andere Zukunft ist möglich! Wir streiten für eine lebenswerte, soziale und ökologisch nachhaltige Zukunft für alle und unterstützen mit unserer Aktion die stattfindenden Auseinandersetzungen der Amazon-Beschäftigten in Deutschland und darüber hinaus.

Make Amazon Pay – another future is possible

Discussion event during the Transnational Social Strike // Berlin Meeting // 10-12 November with activists from the struggles against Amazon in Poland and France

Organised by the campaign Make Amazon Pay and TOP B3RLIN, in cooperation with Deliverunion (FAU Berlin)

Amazon is a pioneer for two reasons.

First, it sets new standards for exploitation, repression and debasement of the employees. By using the newest technological methods, the company fragments several labour-processes, sets standardised procedures and therefore creates new dimension of supervision and control. Since 2013, employees are active against these conditions in Germany. These struggles are not only decisive for the several thousand employees at Amazon itself, but they will have a massive influence on the conditions of labour also beyond the logistics-sector. This is why the resistance against this new labour-regime should expand as well; the food deliverers organized in the Deliverunion in Berlin struggle for better working conditions, against exploitation and debasement in the so called new “gig economy”.

Second, Amazon as a Silicon Valley-based company is more and more setting the tone for a technocratic future, which tries to convince with technological progress and simplicity – everything is digitalized, automated, available everywhere and we are all connected with each other. No doubt, some of these technological milestones have potential for a good life for everyone, but under the watch of Amazon and Co maximization of profit, labour madness and exploitation are programmatic.

The campaign „Make Amazon Pay“ claims: another future is possible! We struggle for a reasonable, social and ecological future for all and support with our action the ongoing struggles of Amazon-employees in Germany and beyond.
